So does this mean, in your mind, that a leftist anti-racist anti-sexist movement should spend its resources worrying about how to appeal to a small minority of people who shift to the right as a kneejerk of being held accountable? How much effort should they really expend?
-
Think about this. If these people are so reactionary that they shifted toward right-wing ideologies out of spite, what use is it to worry about shifting propaganda to appeal to them? It seems like a waste of energy that could be used to catalyze a lasting leftist movement.
-
Many people are committed to neither side but will vote for whichever seems more reasonable. How badly must the American left have fucked up for people to see Trump as a solution? People who voted for Obama before? Do better.
-
That's the thing, the American left has been demolished for decades now. It was the political center wearing the trappings of the left, that let Trump become viable by proxy. The Democrats used the same pandering centrist logic you have produced here and that is why they lose.
-
Obama won largely on the back of using far left progressive rhetoric which put Wall Street, the rich, and the oil industry as those deserving of blame. However, when he got into power and affected none of these things, he created a disaffected Democratic base.
-
So with this in mind, "do(ing) better" is a matter of actually going left. This is why Sanders and Corbyn are so popular. They promise not to be more Blaire, Obama, Clinton types.
