The vet says the puppy cannot be neutered until he is 9 months old so his little baby bollix are safe for now. Poor puppy. I wish he could have a vasectomy.

Just get him a pair of Neuticles if you think the change will affect him.

They won't let him have sex. I don't think he'll care about the aesthetics.

Why do you need to neuter him? Is he off leash with other dogs outside of your control? Castrated males, of any species, are quite sad creatures.

Yes, he is. He will be running free with other dogs every day. He would be sadder if he couldn't do that. He needs to run much faster and much more than I can. They don't seem to care much, tbh, but I overthink it.

Fair. Intact males can still run with other dogs, you just need to supervise. It’s a greater responsibility, but lets male become himself. Also a dog on a long leash (15ft) will run laps around you. Neutering is better for humans (maybe?), not dogs. I have intact Samoyed 2yrs. /1

No developed countries outside the US neuter pets. Neutering in the US was mostly pushed by puppy mill lobbying to increase demand.

That's not true. It's standard here in the UK and for most of Europe. It is responsible ownership.

Rates are higher in the US than Europe. And no, neutering is not a responsible substitute for proper training. Norway’s Animal Welfare Act explicitly discourages neutering, & prohibits it in many cases.

You may want to contact your closest veterinary medicine school to get a referral to vets in your area who perform vasectomies. It’s not routine surgery, but some vets offer it as an option. (Bear in mind that adenocarcinoma, prostate cancer, is more common in intact male dogs.)

I think vets are more cautious about neutering these days. Vet recommended 1 yr for Zorro because bigger dogs still do a lot of growing until then.
