You think this appeals to the average person? Also, sentences like: Metamodernism shall be defined as the mercurial condition between & beyond irony & sincerity, naivety & knowingness, relativism & truth, optimism & doubt, in pursuit of a plurality of disparate& elusive horizons

I'm not sure I understand? The manifesto is explicitly written in an obtuse, over-the-top style of early modernist manifestos (so appeal is obviously specific!), though at the same time speaks of an absolute sincerity in every word for movement beyond its state.

Early modernist? The juxtaposition of contradictions and attempts to reconcile them and appeal to plurality is much more postmodernist. Resists clarification.

oh yes, it's both these things at once though, by design

Is it possible to persuade you to stop designing things this way & speak straightforwardly?

seems you're again (wilfully?) disregarding the intent and meaning of the manifesto as an artwork. And is this piece not extremely straightforward?http://www.metamodernism.com/2015/01/12/metamodernism-a-brief-introduction/ …

It just isn't relevant. If its only art, I don't need to concern myself with it. In the same way, I don't need to tell writers of vampire fiction that they don't exist because they were never claiming they do.
