I urge everyone to read this: https://www.thenewatlantis.com/publications/wokeness-and-myth-on-campus … I have been trying to get at this drawing on @MatthewdAncona & the example of Jordan Peterson's popularity & the concept of metamodernism but Alan Jacobs' use of Kołakowski's technological & mythical cores really clarifies.
I think we underestimated people's need for them at our peril. d'Ancona points out that the truth itself has a mythic element & that we can embed facts in satisfying narratives. We can also enjoy & find moral wisdom in non-factual myths whilst recognising that's what they are.

Agree myths shld not be underest'd - hence need to treat them w respect. But myths are inherently uncompromising - i.e. very divisive & all-encompassing. So needs to be societal norms abt how they shld be treated. Enlightenment did this for religion - & suggest these myths no dif

That's what Jacobs says too in the bit called 'A Place for Myths.' That they should be treated like Christianity is. As something people are entitled to but which can be questioned, doubted, challenged and does not have the right to be taken as true.
