Oh god, I didn't think of that but Cathy is right. Is the Doctor going to have to get everything right always and have zero character flaws to avoid outrage now? That would be very dull and it wouldn't even work. Avoiding offence is impossible.https://twitter.com/CathyYoung63/status/945833285984378886 …

See, this is exactly what I suggested in my @SpliceToday piece. The things that are normal Doctor things are going to be interpreted as sexist when the Doctor is female. https://twitter.com/sebpatrick/status/945636165121662976 …

In fairness, Jim started it by saying "women drivers eh".

I, as much as any, don't want there to be a big deal about her being a woman, but it wasn't the "Feminists" who started this. It was Jim from the Daily Mail.

Oh, it was serious, was it? Well, a genuine joke about women drivers rather than a claim that it was feeding into that?

I get that it was meant to be a joke, and you know me! I'm hardly a sensitive bloke. But the joke he made would only work if it was only her that crashed the Tardis. They all crash it on regeneration! It just wasn't even funny.

I'd suggest the same as (say) Scott and Bailey where it's (mostly) just a straight gender swap. Very watchable...Fuck the haters.

And that's the irony. The people who advocated so strongly for a female doctor will be the ones that ensure she's a flop.

The flip side of this was the interchange between the two Drs in the episode.... showing how he’s changed his attitudes with the times....

That's exactly why the excesses of an authoritarian ideology ruin works of art.
