I seem to be being accused of having culturally appropriated Christmas because I celebrate it without being Christian. I haven't stolen it. You can still do the religious version you see as being more authentic.https://twitter.com/johnberkley9759/status/945028379652382721 …

i buy presents as remembrance of the gifts given to Jesus by the Wise men, i am celebrating to birth of Christ, i just find it weird how atheists latch on to day for christians when they have the whole year to do whatever they do..it all comes down to not wanting to fee left out

My father acknowledged being an atheist the other day. I was pretty sure he was because he's never mentioned God ever but he's always said 'Church of England' when asked & on forms. But: My mum in relevant convo to cab driver: We're atheists. Cabbie: Are you? My dad: Yes.

I think this is the conservative/liberal difference between my parents. My father doesn't believe in God but likes Christianity. My mother doesn't believe in God & doesn't like Christianity either. She likes Christians tho, usually.

So tomorrow, we are doing Christmas for 2 ex-Christians, 4 never-anythings and an ex-Hindu. That will work fine.

We celebrated Christmas when I was growing up, even though we were Muslim. My parents did it so the kids wouldn’t feel left out. Isn’t that called assimilation? Seems damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

How dare atheists take a few days in the year that are national holidays to spend with their loved ones and give gifts to each other and over eat on roasts! Makes me wonder: Are pagans complaining we put up Christmas trees?

Cultural appropriation is just another bullshit phrase for some mediocre mind to try and tell you what you can do. It's just another form of censorship to force someone else's idea of a moral society. Fuck 'em. You can't force morality.

You can celebrate the winter solstice, which is what Xmas has become really. That's authentic since it's something actually happens.

Heh. Given the fact that most ‘Christmas’ traditions (including the date) were appropriated from pagan Yule festivities, maybe you dmshould be allowed to do whatever you bloody well want.

Don't know where such people find you, but sometimes their lack of knowledge - in this case that Xmas itself was appropriated - is amusing. Merry Xmas!

It's not our fault our respective governments tell everyone to stay home from work on December 25, instead of just the Bible-thumpers.
