Yes. I disagree with them a lot too but they do have a point about intersectionals neglecting class.https://twitter.com/ianpacemain/status/944949256099680256 …

I’ve never come across a Marxist who thinks that gender or race is unimportant - quite the reverse. But most would locate women’s oppression in institution of the family as economic unit, as Engels theorised, and racism as an ideology used to legitimise colonial theft of land.

Thats where I'm at- I find the rigidity of marxism to be offputting and untenable, but it seems to be the only movement that recognizes that family wealth is the main determinant of opportunity & success.

This is why we need a strong centre-left social democracy with culturally liberal aims.

One does not have to be a Marxist, but simply a social democrat, to be concerned about economic inequality and division. It’s not merely coincidental that intersectionality has risen as social democracy has declined.

Not just that Helen, it contributes towards left-wing semitism too. Jews are considered to be ‘white’ by everyone bar the far-right. Whites have white skin privilege. How can they then be ‘oppressed’ in any way? Blind-spot is formed.

The third aspect of intersectionality that is problematic is the left’s relationship with Islamism. White/hetero/cis/male = ‘privileged.’ Anything that doesnt fall within that schema gets ignored. Including problematic behaviour within the BAME community.

The simplistic intersectionality 'wheel' needs additional dimensions to account for the complexity/overlap. Done with proper rigor it would have as many dimensions as people and would then of course be a tautology.
