This is why Marxists oppose intersectionals. Not because they think race/gender/sexuality etc irrelevant but because intersectionals neglect class! Marxists see the postmodern shift as bourgeois intellectuals taking Leftist politics away from the working class & refiguring it.https://twitter.com/ianpacemain/status/944945716937535488 …

More than a few of those claiming oppression and attacking privilege in others are privileged in this respect, but need to recapture a monopoly of virtue. Indian Marxist Aijaz Ahmad argued this re sons/daughters of ruling classes in former colonised countries studying in West.

You can fulfil diversity targets absolutely and still recruit entirely from the 1% - as plenty of firms in the City of London know.

Or as Adolph Reed says, identity politics IS class politics: It benefits the professional-managerial class, including for instance all the diversity consultants.

Right. Not good for class solidarity. Come to think of it, the US Democrats could stand to learn a thing or two from their Marxist brethren.

This is an excellent distillation of Irish left wing politics in 2017. Your observations are incredibly accurate. Hope you had a nice Christmas and all the best for 2018.

In France people like the Lyotard of The Postmodern Condition were thought of as entirely anti-Marxist.

I’ve never come across a Marxist who thinks that gender or race is unimportant - quite the reverse. But most would locate women’s oppression in institution of the family as economic unit, as Engels theorised, and racism as an ideology used to legitimise colonial theft of land.

And in this regard we probably have to hand it to the Marxists, they are quite right on this point, I feel...
