It does but there is a difference between verbal abuse & snapping at your partner. The latter is not unleashing your anger on others harmfully. Compare: You're a fat, ugly cunt & I never loved you! with Ugh!You've used all the hot water AGAIN! Why can't you remember to put it on!https://twitter.com/SolarisRex/status/943247609862307840 …

So, language doesn't hurt feelings? Relationships aren't in large part based on feelings? Romantic relationships don't often hinge in feelings? Do you know what non-violent domestic abuse is? Feelings. In relationships, those kind of matter. https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/943246642060365824 …

One of the main reasons I follow you is that you often manage to state, with precision, concepts that are important to me, but that Inam completely unable to articulate - this is yet another example

My 2 cents, slamming a door in anger, or snapping, can usually be placed somewhere on the spectrum of moral failure, even if it is "totally normal". It normally triggers in me a desire to do better next time, and I think that's the right attitude.

It's certainly better never to get annoyed but also impossible. If my husband is grumpy, I will give him space. Variations of human mood and expression of them are acceptable. Much worse if someone never shows irritation.

I agree - irritation serves a function. I'm not so much saying we shouldn't get annoyed, rather that we should endeavour to minimise the extent to which we become reactionary in the face of irritarion. But we should also forgive ourselves when we fail

Typical Argument in my house usually goes: "Hey hun, I need the dog brush, it's on the counter." *Goes to counter "Hey love, it's not here!" *My wife, exhasperated "Not that counter!" *Me, trying not to sound like a dick "Which one then?" *Waifu "I'll do it myself!"

The world is complicated and people want things stupidfied to the dumbest level possible for them. None of this "it is ok to have a drink or two while pregnant" stuff. All or nothing with no nuance.

For a different comparison. When I was a stay at home dad I was told by my X that I was useless trash and just free babysitting. But when she stayed at home it was called being a parent. Her words to me one fine day.... ah memories.
