Another argument on Facebook about whether its reasonable to blame white people for the votes Roy Moore did get. White people as a whole, that is. Their whiteness, specifically.

We can reasonably attack white supremacy but not being white. I don't know why this is so hard. The distinction between ideas and people is getting harder and harder for more and more people.

I also still keep encountering the accusation that if I say that we shouldn't judge people based on race, gender, sexuality etc, this means that I think this isn't happening or isn't the cause of the problem.

I said this the other day but in a different context. It feels new to me. I'm used to people thinking mistaking descriptive statements for prescriptive ones but not the other way round.

eg: I am used to: More men than women want to do engineering. Why do you think women shouldn't do engineering?! But: We shouldn't judge people by their race. How can you not know racism exists?! seems new.

Don't let Americans lie to you--race issues are deeply ingrained in every state. That said, Moore wouldn't have lost without 1) white people voting against him AND 2) the massive black voter turnout. It's much more useful to critique GOP-Evangelical tribalism.

If it's legitimate for black people to vote for their group interests surely whites are allowed to do the same. The Left promotes racial identity politics and this is the predictable outcome.
