Woohoo. Workable solution from the school. Was getting very frustrated with their ridiculous system where she was not entitled to any allowances for significant difficulties with handwriting & spelling because she's well ahead with maths, science & tech.

Anyway, it has worked. I've had a phone call saying that they are giving her a chromebook because when they can actually read what she is saying, it's quite good. I've only been saying this for 8 years.

I don't understand how this got so far, surely her teachers were able to say to them "we can't understand her without this" ?
-
I don't understand either. They kept on at me about practising, wouldn't believe me that we were, had her come to school twenty minutes earlier to practice for two years, still didn't make any difference, still no allowances. FFS!
-
But the phone call said enough teachers have now said they simply can't mark her work because they can't read it, that they've accepted that a bright student is going to fail when she's got the knowledge unless they do something.
-
progress at least, shame it took this long. I always struggled with handwriting, well actually I still can't write tbh.. but it's not through lack of practise.. I can't read anything I wrote at school now, god knows how my teachers marked it

She has poor fine motor skills generally. She can't hold a knife and fork properly. Laces are never going to happen. Only just managed buttons.
-
That doesn't sound fun, can she type ok?
-
Yes, absolutely fine! Speedy two-finger typist!
-
She'll be fine post school then :) If a little shabbily dressed...

Do they let people take GCSEs on a computer?
-
Yes. She'll be allowed to do that.
