Currently having an argument about whether cisgendered people are obsessed by gender. I think this is nuts. We're the ones who don't have to be. Our gender matches our biological sex & no-one questions it.

The argument is that because cisgendered people set the norms of gender identity & gender performance, we put much energy into this and are intensely focused on it. This doesn't work.

I don't need to think about being a woman or about femininity very much because everyone accepts I am a woman and that my liking for a feminine appearance is unexceptional.

Apparently, what I really mean by this is: So...what you’re saying is you’re cis, and you think it’s ok for you to be obsessed with gender because there’s more of you?

Apparently, I need to accept that I am enforcing my gender norms on trans people by having more common ones. It's irrelevant that I actively promote acceptance of gender-nonconformity.

I try to be supportive. I really do. I just don't think cis people are generally more obsessed with gender than trans activists because we don't tend to need to think about it that much.pic.twitter.com/5cjuOjEVfC

I get the point they're making. But they're doing it badly. Tldr. Trans people don't want to care about gender and once we transition we don't really. But other people seem to care about it an awful lot and try to tell us we're men because we're male. Or gay because we're male.

This is the focus in gender they're talking about and is a real problem for trans people because we're often getting shoehorned or boxed into spaces we don't belong because of other people's dedication to faulty understandings of trans and gender in general.

If they want to say “You are not a very nice person,” they will always find a way to twist your words to make you Eva Braun’s (even more) evil twin sister.

Never had an issue with how people choose to identify themselves. It seems that however accepting we are there are many who strive to project their own confusions or misunderstanding of themselves.

Walking down the street on two functioning legs is ableist, because I'm taking a very loud position that feet are better than no feet. I had gender disphoria, but didn't transition; am I allowed to discuss why/why not, or would that be too scary?

When a 'tomboy' grows up on a farm, everyone is pretty damned happy about it. Total acceptance is freeing. Being needed is fulfilling.

It’s revealing how these people act when confronted with simple, objective truth. We call the NORMS for a reason. Yes, those of us with two working legs don’t spend a lot of time thinking about bipedalism.
