...imo would *have* to be pro gay rights, for instance. I think people miscommunicate because they lump social and economic positions under one label when in reality there's more variation there.

I think being a liberal or calling yourself one means you're gonna have a tough time because you tend to get attacked for views you don't actual hold.

Seriously, what do the terms - any terms - mean in the current atmosphere? I see so few examples readily identifiable that it seems we're in 'make it up as you go along and call yourself what you want land'. It seems far easier to identify what something isn't than what it is.
