The thing it gets right is the need to recognise that men also have feelings and that we have focused much more on ensuring that girls know they can do everything than on ensuring that boys know they can actually have emotional needs & vulnerabilities.

It is wrong in claiming we live in an era of angry men. Violent crime continues to decrease. It is wrong in claiming that anger in women is not really a thing and when it is, its productive rather than destructive.

'Today’s angriest women galvanize; today’s angriest men murder.' No, anger can be manifested in unhealthy & unhealthy ways. When men's anger manifests badly, it's more likely to result in violence. When women's is, it's more likely to result in verbal & psychological cruelty.

It's great that her daughter likes to play with toy swords and her son rejects them in favour of hearts? No, it's neutral. Attempts to train girls to be more aggressive & boys less aggressive are very likely to fail & also cause feelings of inadequacy in your children.

Rather than attempting to raise a 'sweet boy', focus on discovering who your child actually is & helping them find healthy ways to be that person, whether he is sensitive, emotionally expressive & nurturing or tough, emotionally private and competitive.

Just started reading it ... I'm already annoyed after the first sentence. Calling your new born "little man" or "buddy" is a bad thing?! As if that is what turns a boy into an angry brute?!

Availability heuristic is a bitch. This would be rated as sloppy thinking even for a college undergrad. Do these people mingle with other homo sapiens in their lives or is this all just posturing and narrative?pic.twitter.com/rJPy2HZtVT

Had to google "availability heuristic". Yes it is. Maybe not. I wonder how many of her friends voted for Trump or share more conservative (republican) opinions. This is male bashing. It reeks of double standards. Forget all the good men do, lets just concentrate on the evil.

even if she's in a bubble, the rather salient fact that murderous rage, or just general nastiness, is rather rare in the men shes knows, would be kinda hard to miss, but then comes selective reasoning and confirmation bias.

Don't you know, these men are one angry emotion away from a murderous rampage? The only men that are exempt from this are men of colour and Muslims because to say otherwise would be racist/Islamophobic. Actually, I do wonder what she'd say if you asked her if this applies to them

Here's a radical idea: what if, instead of trying to make boys more like girls, we instead try to make girls a bit more like boys - i.e. a bit more resilient and a bit less emotionally incontinent.

"Boys have always known they could do anything...Girls have always known they were allowed to feel anything" This woman has no clue what life is like for the working class i.e the vast majority of people in society.

Testosterone levels in Western men have decreased dramatically over the past 40 years. Usually people blame chemicals in food, etc. I think my levels drop from reading this sort of articles.

Isn't it great that "President Obama wept while remembering the victims of Sandy Hook"! That must be a great consolation to the dozens of families whose loved ones have been slaughtered since then,

Parents will shift their emphasis from cultivating competitive fierceness to greater emotional intelligence just as soon as they sense that is what young women will demand of boys years later. Message: don't preach to parents; preach to women aged 18-36 to prefer soulful men.
