Postmodernism & socialism are incompatible as sets of ideas for the reason given - rejection of metanarratives. This is why PoMo made Marxism one of its first targets - saw it as naive modernism. (1 of many) https://twitter.com/jdietz224/status/940405336468611072 …

This is not to say that there is no connection between Marxism and postmodernism. They almost certainly answer the same psychological needs rooted the same moral foundations. PoMo can be seen to fill the gap left by the disillusionment with Marxism.

Postmodernism remains anti-capitalist too & it draws on Marxist ideas to do so. Capitalism is also a simplistic modern structure in its understandings. It just doesn't offer any solutions & doesn't bother understanding economics or caring about working class people.

It is tempting to conflate postmodernism with Marxism for two reasons. It makes a neat package of your enemies if you are right-wing. It saves having to understand postmodernism which is pretentious & pointless, whoever you are.

I don't mean that people who conflate the two are necessarily being dishonest or even unconsciously using motivated reasoning. Postmodernism is difficult to understand and spending the time necessary to understand it is seldom worthwhile.

It's frankly a relief to have a straightforward, graspable explanation but we can't properly oppose postmodernism unless we understand its conception of knowledge, reason, truth & it is poles apart from the Marxist one.

You've switch from Socialism to Marxism, there have been many non Marxist forms of socialism. What baffles me and would baffle Marx is all this talk of cultural Marxism.
