I've seen some criticism of this essay as ill-informed about Marxist theory. Would definitely welcome a full-fledged critique -- I found it convincing, but I'm no expert on Marxismhttps://twitter.com/michaelshermer/status/939600400998531072 …

It's not about Marxism, but I've read this thread from Helen Pluckrose that points out a weak point about the article which I didn't think about when I first read it:https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/939535207455166465 …
Kirbmarc added,
Helen Pluckrose @HPluckroseThis is very good and I agree with much of it. However, I don't think the defining feature of critical theory is quite encapsulated by the desire to liberate people from oppression. This is a larger liberal (and libertarian) drive. http://quillette.com/2017/12/09/white-women-tears-wilfrid-laurier-critical-theory/ …Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

It kind of is. I do intend to write something about the tendency to ascribe critical theory & postmodernism itself to Marxism and miss the half of the picture that comes from counter-enlightenment philosophy & explains central problems with knowledge & cultural constructivism.

I thought this was a good piece overall but did verge on doing that. Marxism is just one kind of critical theory and tho lip-service is paid to anti-capitalism in most forms of critical theory, it's much more epistemically confused than that.
