I feel you. I know when I’m randomly snapping at my stepdaughter, my wife, and any other human being that happens to be nearby, I know my anxiety and depression are kicking in. The only thing I’m able to do is retreat to my bedroom and write. The only thing that helps.

Yeah. Deflection. It was one of the reasons I got so obese. Eating my feelings, as I was told. Food became a comfort. And gambling. Gambling is the one thing that I still haven't entirely kicked. My stepdaughter is going through some stuff right now. She's doing what you describe

Have you tried a light workout for 45 min/day? Might help I feel more centered & in control of your mood

Mindfulness meditation (e.g., Jon Kabat-Zinn) and self-compassion (e.g., Kirstin Neff) did it for me. Helpful for keeping perspective when dealing with PoMos. Also, highly recommend Brenee Brown’s work, especially “Daring Greatly” which describes what you are doing to a tee.

Maybe it could be helpful, if you created a space for yourself, where it's OK to feel and lose control. A space you can visit when needed.
