Why won't this idea that no-one's taught men not to sexually assault women die? Isn't the fact an overwhelming majority of men don't, it's illegal, there's a special register for it & sex offenders need to be separated from other men in prison for own safety evidence to contrary?https://twitter.com/drjengunter/status/938606195673141248 …

Why don’t we invest in a start up that teaches men not to assault women? https://twitter.com/mashable/status/938394620278345729 …

It really isn't the 'gotcha' you think it is. We all know rapists still exist & agree stopping them before they rape would be better than developing methods for women to protect themselves from them.If you genuinely have a start-up idea that will do that, go for it. I'll back you

Until you do discover a way to eradicate violent sexual criminals, please consider a) not making it taboo to discuss or invent ways to make women safer and b) whether confusing 'violent sexual criminals' with 'men' will help reduce incidents of sexual assault in any way.

I don't know if that last thought is well expressed, but I trust you take the point.

I think it might be overthinking it. It would be odd if sex were the one thing unscrupulous men desired but did not take by force.

Sex, by its very nature isn't "nice", ask nice guys how they're going in the sexual market place.

Sorry, that's an MRA thing far as I can see. "Nice" guys GENUINE nice guys get on fine and have meaningful relationships, and sex isn't the bloody focus. (We also shouldn't commodify sex the way we do, the flip side is that it distorts relationships.)

It is my (limited) understanding that a lot of violent sexual crime is about power and not really about sex at its underlying core. Perhaps we should start with that?

I shall be guided by you in this, because it's not my area of knowledge. Do we, or indeed, can we, make a broad statement about what drives so much abuse?

Thank you. My original statement WAS based on the assertion discussed at the beginning of the article. I feel much more informed, and for some reason a bit sadder. We hold youth and beauty to be aligned, I am, alas, no exception, and I am sad that it also brings risk.

I sometimes think that what I express in tears, that I cannot have a baby because the biology of my birth betrayed me, is seen as a power that men cannot have, and some men, SOME, men want control over what is not their domain. (Cough, Congress).
