They don't need their own lives when they're toddlers, no. They do need someone on top of them at all times then or they'll kill themselves. Often one parent needs to be part-time or at home then or work round each other & enlist friends and grandparents. That's what I did.

And yeh, we are in complete agreement. Also ftr if you ever see me say one parent needs to be with the kid I am always referring to the early years.

I believe from my vague memory of those years that my Mum dealt with it by baby sitting other parents kids. An option which is sadly no longer possible with current laws :(
