Surprisingly often, I get criticisms that my arguments about what we should do fail because people aren't doing them. eg Me: We (liberal lefties) should apply liberal principles consistently. OP: You're wrong because evidence of this not happening. Me: ????

It was a far-right ethnonationalist in that case. He didn't want to hear me say we need to be able to talk about human rights issues in Islam as in everything else because if we were able to do that undermines his plan to get rid of Muslims & all non-white people as a solution!

That was an extreme example, obviously, but is this the psychology? They read reasonable discussions of solutions to a problem as not acknowledging the problem because they see 'burn it all down' 'ban it' 'go to war' as the only way to address it.

I get it a lot when I talk about feminism too. I identify a problem and the thinking behind it and someone always wants to tell me that feminism is a problem & they tell me in an argumentative tone as tho I need convincing of this.
