Twitter: Don't diet! Diets don't work! Just change what you're eating to something that makes you lose weight! Me: 🤔 We might be working on different definitions of 'diet' here.

While cutting carbs really is amazingly effective (I used to be skeptical of this until a friend lost over 100 lbs in a year on it) another good trick is to eat a solid breakfast and dinner but only eat a tiny snack for lunch. That's what I do now.

I read Taubes and convinced husband to try it and it's worked really well. The advantage is you don't go hungry at all; we are eating quite well (not more than enough to be sated) and also got us out of a rut, trying a bunch of new things.

Research very suggestive of lowering the bad stuff and raising the good stuff, too (cholesterol, etc) which is extra good for husband given his bad genetics in that area. Will know for sure after next dr visit, but I'm hopeful.

beware body positive Twitter, they're only positive about one body type: their own "health at every size" is so full of delusional people

People are very weird about food and weight nowadays. It’s best to ignore a lot of it.

"Dieting" = cut out carbs. That's it. Nothing else I've ever done, including exercise (builds muscle & appetite) has made a damn difference.

The American meaning of "diet" is more like a made-to-order hipster phase, but with food.

I'm not sure that's so incoherent. "Diet" often suggests changing eating habits for set period of time. People are maybe indicating best thing to do is change eating habits for good.

Think by 'don't diet' people mean traditional plans with calorie-counting, weighing etc, because many peoples' experience is that their weight goes back up once the plan's finished. The 'change your eating habits' approach doesn't have an end point or a failure condition.
