Irish people *can't* be racist to the British. I learnt that in my critical Irish studies class.

I certainly thought we were out of that, but I am daily reminded that there seems to be lots of English people with deeply racist attitudes towards Irish people. Not that I mind, but there's not much point in pretending they don't exist.

You are daily reminded?! I heard one mildly anti-Irish comment recently and it really shocked me because I'd never heard one before! You hear this a lot?

Yes, I do. Although it's been given a boost recently by this Brexit thing (I think). There was a period when I didn't hear it at all. Let's not forget that the sort of sign below in London was within living memory of many people.pic.twitter.com/oM1rXoA4Nm

Yes, of course! But most Irish people who have worked or lived in England will have at least one story of at least one racist incident. The good news, however, is that none of it affects our opportunities or legal rights, so it doesn't matter.

I've had an educated English person say to my face: "Don't you think the Irish are quite stupid." I didn't even bother trying to defend myself. What's the point?

Hot take: Ireland is terrible, as are the Irish. I think the last one I could tolerate was Oscar Wilde, or Geezer Butler.
