It’s the gleeful erosion of truth and purposeful coercion and/or inflammation of “others” to serve intolerant dogma that make them both the same problem in the end.

I would use the term fanaticism rather than extremism. It's possible to be far Right or far Left or an extreme Centrist without being a fanatic. I would also distinguish between authoritarian & libertarian in the social sense. Fanatics tend to be authoritarian & intolerant of

even the slightest dissent. You don't get that so much with civil libertarians, regardless of how extreme their views may be toward one or another pole. And yes it is possible to be an extreme Centrist, as strange as that may sound.
