Oh I can't get a screenshot of it on her laptop! She's been asked to work out an equation that requires knowing the mass, the constant and the extension but has only been given the first two.

Ya'll throwin shade and I just wanna know what the problem is, in detail.

Who knew it would take following a humanities scholar in another country to get me interested in doing physics again?
-
I shall charge my ipad and take a picture of it.

OK, this is an energy balance problem! The gravitational potential energy is assumed to be fully converted into the spring energy. Which gives you the extension.
-
This makes sense to her tho not to me.
-
Nope. She still doesn't know what to do with this. Arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

The spring is dropped and the higher you drop it from the more it compresses. Makes sense, non? So, what's going on is that the gravitational potential energy is being converted into the spring energy. Need formulae for both. Then set equal.
