Well, this didn't work at all. I drank lots of wine but it did not knock me out, just made me overshare in DM & get into arguments on Twitter. WHY CANT I SLEEP AT NIGHTTIME????https://twitter.com/hpluckrose/status/934954164492361733 …

Hmm. I am semi-pissed (trying to knock myself out at a reasonable time for Brits). I'm going to search silly things. Excuse me if my account goes a bit weird for a while.

Because you're doing other things. When you can't sleep, lay in bed and read a book. No Twitter. No phone. No computer. No tv. Rhythm is your friend.

Don't try too hard to sleep. On the contrary, listen to an audio book (eg Stephen Hawking "A Brief History Of Time) and force yourself to listen and to understand. You'll sleep like a baby. 😀

Try getting one of those blue light filter things for your devices. Blue light tricks your brain into thinking it's day time. Also, whiskey. And if all that fails, try listening to an in depth lecture about software configurations that's beyond your grasp.

Whisky tricks your brain into thinking it's day time? Hey, the perfect excuse. (Yes, I know I'm being a pedantic parser.)

Helen, allow me to recommend 5-HTP. I I am generally unable to sleep for longer than 4, maybe 5, hours at a time, but if I take 5-HTP, usually sends me to sleep pretty quickly, and I generally sleep for 7 and 1/2 hours.

Alcohol not great for sleep. Take a 1mg melatonin about 30-60 minutes before bed then lay down and read or watch 'forensic files'.

Can you use sleeping pills? If not, can you use NightQil, or benedril? Both of those can cause drowsiness. Chamomile tea can also be helpful. 'Sleepy' tea blends do exist & can be quite good.
