That isn’t proof of anything more than “it’s somewhat popular on Earth”. Any number of horrific issues could be defended with what you wrote here. Is it a parental right, for example? Is there harm?

I don't need to prove anything. It is up to the families who make those decisions to make them.

Then why are you promoting the “legal case” as a defense if you won’t explain why it’s legal? It seems like you’re saying it’s a parental right. Is that your case?

Is your argument that it is not legal?

No, because I’m aware and I’ve thought this through. I’m arguing it shouldn’t be legal because it’s (obviously) unethical. (Plenty of examples of that.) I’m trying to understand why you think it should stay legal.

Well, sure, you want to change the law. I can't see the point, myself. There's no harm. Parents are best placed to make those decisions on behalf of the infant children they love and care for.

How is there no harm? Where there was a foreskin, there is now no longer a foreskin. The same may apply to the frenulum. What other normal body parts can we cut off that don’t constitute harm? Is it just boy genitals?

There needs to be an argument, James. If it was custom to remove the end of a pinky finger or the little toe, would that be acceptable?

It's more than a localised custom. Male circumcision is something that between a quarter and a third of men undergo. The comparison is not good.

OK but if the widespread custom that between a quarter and a third of men undergo was removal of a toe, would that be OK?
