I think the fact that it's socially acceptable to say 'Men are trash' whilst saying 'Women are trash' easily destroys careers & reputations complicates this understanding of power. https://twitter.com/djeznyc/status/934818888679874560 …

Perhaps males (typically) have an "obvious" power whereas females (typically) have a subtle power. But regardless, there is an undeniable power in being able to accuse others, and it's a bald power grab to justify such accusations based on specious claims of "obviousness."

I'm not sure they do unless you mean physical strength differences. Its not obvious to me that being male gives men any power over me. But then, my bosses are nearly always female coz healthcare & education is my background.

There is a consistent theme across species where the male performs and the female evaluates his performance. In humans this manifests in “hold my beer” behavior in men, which is what I mean by obviousness

I agree Helen, it leads to idiotic notions that its fine if innocent men lose their job over false accusations ‘- coz men’. Said in heat of moment (privately) due to frustrations is one thing, saying it with actual conviction is trash.

Hmm not so sure. I hear “bloody women” a lot. Lots of stereotyping about women and our behaviour etc. But again, that’s all private stuff generally not on social media platforms, that’s where it’s a problem.

Its less socially acceptable, yes. The sexist attitudes might well still exist but to express them openly has consequences for men which don't seem to exist for women.

OK, but let's remember, this isn't 'men' and 'women' but sexists and ideologues.

Once it has been decided who is on what side of the oppressor/oppressed line the courtesies that apply to talk about the oppressed don’t apply to talk about the oppressor, who is required to remain silent and admit their guilt

If you use sexist and discriminatory language against any one group or demographic, I feel you are disqualified from complaining about sexism or discrimination in regards to other groups or demographics. You're just as much part of the problem you claim to be against.

What happened to = rights? Both get same treatment, same punishment for doing wrong and same benefits. Regardless of races, gender/sex, religion, language.

They stopped saying that long ago because they can't defend it. They've backed off to "equity" now, which translates to "equality of outcome, not equality of opportunity."

Notice: Push people on their insistence that we should lower our standard of behavior for non-white males well enough, they nearly always resort to "because power dynamics," which is a non-sequitur. It's the line at which their ideology breaks down. It's basically "God did it."
