I've been here before. In my early twenties, I had to take anti-epileptics that made me put on 140lbs but it came off again in just over a year when I stopped them & was able to manage a calorie controlled diet.

I'm fine keeping to a healthy diet when I'm not taking meds that make me ravenously hungry all the time. I find it almost impossible when I am. Being hungry all the time is miserable.

Good luck! Brisk walks in the evenings with dogs helps as well. Did I mention brisk?
-
Just did 3 miles in 45 minutes. That's about as brisk as I can get right now.
-
That is plenty brisk! It might surprise you how many people who can't do that.

SCIENCE! Seriously though all these people falling for ketogenic this, non-gluten that, are fooling themselves. Weight loss ain't easy but it ain't a fucking miracle, either.

What's working for me is the 'simple changes to eating/buying' approach rather than plans & targets. Nowadays I look at the traffic-light system on food packages: it's got to have no reds & at least 2 greens or I don't buy it, with a couple of carfeully controlled exceptions

You may have an easier time losing weight than some, so cutting calories alone may work. But a calorie is not a calorie, actually (per
@GaryTaubes).@DrEades has written about how our body is able to conserve carb cals while blowing off those from meat, etc. -
A few of these
@DrEades posts https://proteinpower.com/drmike/2007/09/11/is-a-calorie-always-a-calorie/ … + https://proteinpower.com/drmike/2008/05/27/low-carb-and-calories-2/ … PS Mike, there's one I'm thinking of about the body blowing off non-carb calories...do you know which I'm talking about?

You could cut chocolate out of your diet. I’m sure hubby will be happy to help.

-
I’m sure husband knows better than to support such self-harm.

It is indeed 80% diet. The core challenge is to make those 1500 stretch 24 hours by predominantly choosing stuff that has a low GI index. Fats (think olive oil, avocado, almonds — but use a scale) and unlimited high fibre vegetables are the platform.
