actually couldn't one make an argument that there are more ways that men are criticized/evaluated asymmetrically by society, despite it being true that women are asymmetrically criticized/evaluated for physical appearance...?

Yes, and underneath it all is the instinctive "searching-for-a-mate" thing. One reason I like Twitter is that you don't have to know the other person's sex, age, ethnicity etc if they choose not to reveal it. Just their character & personality. It's liberating and invigorating
