Nice! I rewrote the Princess and the Pea for my daughter. It begins as usual with the prince's parents being convinced she is good enough for him coz she is bruised by a pea under 20 mattresses. Obviously, the problem with that is that she immediately dies in childbirth.https://twitter.com/CathyYoung63/status/933861975465123840 …

Leaving a daughter. The grieving prince immediately realises what an idiot he has been and raises his daughter not to be remotely fragile and she does this so well that she becomes the greatest queen the country has ever known. The end.

Hm... Only problem with that is that it seems to be a massive endorsement of social constructivism. At least as regards princesses. Still, a huge improvement on the original!

Some things are socially constructed. We can raise kids to be resilient and deal with hardship.

I'm sure that's right, up to a point. In fact I always assumed that until I heard Pinker talking about how many personality traits are shared by separated identical twins. But mainly I was just making a lame joke, there.

Well, yes, this is true. Some people won't be strong and some won't be timid no matter how they are raised. Oh, ok.

You're a good writer. Your fairie tales need a bit of a polish though, before you reach H.C.Andersen territory 😄

I think this is easier for the English to imagine after Elizabeth (1 and 2) and Victoria.
