I'm not saying we should let them define their socially recognized gender identity. But society's definition of their identity does impinge pretty strongly on their subjective identity.
But society doesn't have one stance on this. People have a variety of them & the best we can do is ask them to leave each other alone & not demand purity of thought.

Society has to come to some political decision(s), for instance who's allowed in which changing rooms. We can't just say, "Everybody leave everybody alone to decide for themselves." And these social/political decisions will strongly affect *subjective* identity

Yes! That's a different thing. We wrote about that. I'm talking specifically now about letting other people believe different things & express it.
