I think the whole 'believe women' thing annoys me so much because I think I make bloody good arguments for why people should agree with me & that's kind of ruined by 'coz vagina.' However, people who say 'believe women' very rarely extend this to me anyway so all good.

What's your response to the argument that women being consistently & systematically disbelieved contributes to their fear of coming forward, and thus provides cover to predators? (And in most cases, "disbelief" is a horrifically neutral term for what happens)

What about not having a principle of consistently & systematically disbelieving women or consistently and systematically believing them but instead treating them as human beings who may or may not be right or honest?

That "believe women" is shorthand for, "Women are distrusted by default and men given the benefit of the doubt - and that needs to stop." I don't think people carrying the banner of "believe women" also mean "abandon reason."

Perhaps you've not met enough of them. Also, that claim isn't true. Several studies show that women are perceived as more honest & trustworthy than men.http://healthland.time.com/2010/12/13/study-why-we-think-women-are-more-trustworthy-than-men/ …

Also, PEOPLE accused of crimes are typically given a presumption of innocence “by default.” This is a principle of justice, not sexism.https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/legal-meaning-of-the-cosby-trial …

The "believe women" is conflated with the more logical "don't dismiss because woman". But they get it wrong, as usual.

Some have an actual beef, some are mountain/molehill, some are lying. I've known one of each. So, how should we all believe?

"Don't be that hypersceptical second-guessing asshole to their face when they're in need of emotional support immediately after" isn't nearly as catchy.

It isn’t ‘believe women’. It’s take ‘victim’ seriously, whether they be be man, woman or child.

Same with "'cuz homo." Being reduced down to one or two (admittedly not the most significant) traits is dehumanizing a/f.
