My bank is annoyingly zealous. Every time it spots me doing something unusual with my credit card, it just denies the transaction. Plane tickets to Australia? Nope. Travel insurance for Australia? Nope. Australian currency? Nope. I'm going to fucking Australia, bank! Deal with it

Have you read Patrick White? As far as I know the only Australian ever to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. If you are wondering what to read, you could do worse than his “Voss” or “Riders in The Chariot”

I have 59 books waiting on my Kindle. All non-fiction. Range from cultural analyses of post-truth to neuroscience & psychology. Maybe some detective fiction to break it up. Deaver.

Most banks would like you to call them and say "hey Im going to Australia", then they wont block you

I got all the way over to the US, discovered my phone wouldn't work over there. Was thinking about a new one. If I could have used my phone, I'd have know the bank had flagged my card. 🤬

Asked about that, and bank said it didn't work that way. Told me their software just flagged buying patterns. I bought a few things at the airport, which to me as a programmer would have counted as a clue...

Interesting . HALIFAX have a specialist credit card with great rates so long as you pay it off and that's who I used. Me and the wife had a card each on same account. No cost at all. It's the top on the Martin Lewis site for foreign travel Ps I don't work for Halifax 😎😁
