What an equally tragic, stupid, and heartless thing to say.

That's not establishing a causal effect, though. It's not like marriage is randomly assigned, there is some pretty sever selection bias, so the differences in outcomes can't reliably be attributed to single parenthood.

It does seem unlikely that if all the separate parents currently doing badly raising kids were forcibly married and planted in the same house, that their parenting would improve.

When one is told that something they enjoy and are emotionally attached to (promiscuous/extramarital sex) they often respond devoid of reasoning ability (and like Tweets devoid of reasoning). I'll chalk it up to that.

It's not that their parenting skills would improve, it's that expressing love and long-term commitment to the mother/father of your child increases family stability, something which is immeasurably important to children. /2

Commitment is not a personality. It's an action. Choosing to marry that person is the action.

And that by itself does it? Doesn't require any kind of committed personality traits that also extend to jobs and parenthood?
