In one way, it would be good to have ratings for courses based on their epistemologies and ideological content but in the current climate, I think it would lead to greater polarisation which would outweigh the benefits.

Thank goodness. It was a terrible idea. I’m quite surprised he decided to stop the project after negative feedback.
These days people dismiss all their critics as “extremists” of the opposite ideology. He shows more maturity & sense than many other activists. Much respect
-
How mature can he be, considering he thought that was a good idea in the first place? And his reason for dropping it is a really weak one. He doesn't see the inherent problem in labeling courses as undesirable, as unscientific, based on ideology... Mr. Freedom of Speech doesn't
-
I see no problem in labelling courses as undesirable and unscientific based on ideology. I say this about postmodernism and theology all the time. It doesn't deny anyone free speech.
-
We should label courses as unscientific based on... um... science? Just saying. Also, please define "postmodernism". Jordan Peterson here thinks, I kid you not, *English Literature* is postmodernist. So, yeah. I was referring to FoS not in a legal sense, but in a societal sense.
-
Yes, label them as unscientific based on science. I assumed you meant label them so because of their postmodern ideology. English literature is postmodernist. Literary theory dominates now and its postmodern.
-
Um, what? Literary theory is a field of literature, it's not a point of view. How is it postmodernist? Furthermore, please define "postmodernism".
-
No, it isn't. It is a set of theories by which to analyse literature. They are postmodern & include feminism, postcolonial theory, critical race theory, Marxist theory, post-structuralism and queer theory.

Good. Yes, this is part of the problem. I was uncomfortable with the idea of fighting shame-based censorship with shame-based censorship.

I agree on this. It would be best to come to a joined solution for this. But biggest goal should be to close the gap first and go back to the ideas. If we can do that, maybe we can find a way to better classify studies & science
