I think philosophy as a discipline has fallen to this and it's philosophers who value empiricism and rationalism who tell me so. However, it is true that the empirical rational approaches to thought are also rightly called 'philosophy.'

If so, it has been more recently than my time in the academy. I did note, however, and was rather dismayed to note, that there is a professor at Cornell who specializes in post-modernism. How very disappointing; Cornell used to be known for its Platonic scolarship.
