This is why I prefer the ethos of science. It also emphasises doubt and limitations and fallibility but is optimistic & productive. Brilliant and important however he posits a straw man when he says,"it has been said ..." leaving it to seem that philosophy/religion routinely makes that claim.

Yes. Its the one that gets answers. The method. Doesn't have to be applied to the areas of study typically undertaken in the natural sciences.
