Philosophy is the queen and mother of the Sciences. The empirical method is a system based on a particular school of thought within the field of epistemology, which is a branch of philosophy. Empiricism is that school of thought which asserts of that justification for knowledge

This is not what I am criticising tho.

The statement do you quoted is incorrect, anyway. What philosophy teaches us is not that we are stupid idiots, but that we are ultimately ignorant. We flounder about in search of knowledge and Truth, and we make some pretty good guesses with our limited abilities, but remain

Yes, it is his postmodern approach I am criticising.

I suspected as much.

I think philosophy as a discipline has fallen to this and it's philosophers who value empiricism and rationalism who tell me so. However, it is true that the empirical rational approaches to thought are also rightly called 'philosophy.'

With characteristic succinctness and rhetorical aplomb,
@HPluckrose puts her finger on the fatal character flaw of postmodernists: they are hypocrites — smugly confident of their right(eous)ness, while simultaneously attacking any attempts at legitimate epistemology or ethics.https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/929674081544392704 … -
Postmodernism and philosophy are completely different things. Epistemology and ethics are both philosophical disciplines.
-
True as far as it goes. Philosophy per se is not inherently unscientific. It becomes so however when it is influenced by postmodernist thinking. This problem affects many social sciences, not just philosophy.

Indeed, science works on the premise that we are dumb and want to know more. Philosophy lives to explain stuff before it has any evidence any which way

These are complimentary, not competing disciplines. Philosophy addresses different kinds of questions, which science can't answer. http://existentialcomics.com/comic/190
