I disagree strongly. There is no more a continuum from extramarital sex to sexual assault than there is one from asking for a phone number to sexual assault. Can we please not forget that sexual assault is about coercion and harm? https://twitter.com/bals2thewall/status/929044159532544000 …
And that's what I'm disagreeing with. The idea that not committing to only ever having sex with one person in our lives somehow leads to normalising sexual abuse.

It's not an idea I'm comfortable with either, but could LCK have ever done those things in a culture that frowned upon sex outside marriage?
-
It already frowns on doing those things as we see right now. Plus, it would also be a culture in which it was difficult to have sex outside marriage which would suck
-
Yo, I'm not arguing for a return to Victorian morality. But I do think JP has a point: something valuable is lost when sex is ubiquitous
-
Something valuable is lost when you can only ever have one sexual partner for your whole life too.
-
2/ But that isn't a culture either you, I or anyone else would want to live in. Sex is cheap. Marriage declines. Everyone unhappy. What now?
-
So we all have to go back to 1950s morality because some men are pigs? (Because of course in the 50s, no man ever made passes at teens...)
-
Did I say that? I'm just pointing out that greater sexual freedom has brought unforeseen consequences and it's not obvious how to make good
-
I see your point. However, I don’t believe increased sexual freedom leads to increased sexual harassment. I’ve been harassed far more often by “conservative” men.
