So why do you need marriage? Consent is surely the moral issue here?
I think we do pretty well by making sexual offences the most hated and shameful of all offences.

Hard for me to say we're doing well when there's evidence of an epidemic in the headlines.
-
It's in the headlines precisely because it is unusual and abhorrent. If there wasn't a strong social animus against it, no-one would care.
-
We're in a months-long deluge of continuously unfolding news stories going back decades. The only thing unusual is it's being reported on.
-
Same happened with the Catholic Church child abuse allegations. Time for a reckoning of powerful institutions which cover up abuse. But it needs to be remembered they enabled a cover-up - not normalisation of sex abuse.
-
Same fine line as "victim blaming" - must punish each transgression, but still discuss persistant social factors that are conducive to abuse
-
Yes, exactly. How much more can we as a society deplore sex crime tho? It has one of the longest sentences, its own special register, those convicted have to be separated from other violent offenders for their own safety & even an accusation can ruin a life.
-
I think we're saying same thing - we CAN'T deplore it more, so if it's still happening then just deploring is not enough. We need to talk 1/

Abt social fabric conducive to abusers. Peterson, Shapiro etc. are right abt this - just wrong, IMO, that trad marriage would fix things 2/
