It would suggest that Social Justice activists would do better to present their case calmly and call on people's more rational cognitive empathy than take highly emotive approaches which call on emotional empathy.

This is counterintuitive. Natural to think, 'If I can only make you feel how I do, you'll prioritise helping me.' Instead, it could cause avoidance. I suspect they'd say that people should battle that. In fact, they do say living with the discomfort is virtuous.
