In my period of study, 1300-1700, it was completely normal for the average married woman to have about 15 pregnancies.

It would probably be more now as nutrition is better and we recover from pregnancy faster. One way or another, birth needs to be controlled.

'Why are we focusing on enabling women not to get pregnant every year instead of focusing on asthma medication?' Is a ludicrous question.

If cover for asthma medication is lacking, you can address that without arguing that not being pregnant all the time isn't a health boon.

Of course, a lot of the disapproval for inclusion of birth control is the fear that it enables unmarried people to have lots of casual sex.

Even if this wasn't a shitty reason to oppose it, I'm not at all sure it's true. When having lots of casual sex, what you need is condoms.

Among my friends, anyway, the time to go on the pill is when you're in an exclusive long term relationship. Like marriage.

Her point is valid: BC is not medically necessary as it inhibits a natural working process and HC$ should be spent fixing broken processes
-
What is the justification for this when without birth control, women would be constantly pregnant with all the associated health problems?
-
I don’t think she was advocating for taking away BC. Saying justifying on the basis of HC is specious. You had to read it without prejudice
-
I didn't read it with prejudice & I am addressing the HC claim. It's really not that healthy to be pregnant 20 times.
-
Of course that’s true, but is an outlier. 140 chr limits nuance, but BC is really cheap. It’s insurance against getting PG. it’s not HC
-
I'd consider it healthcare. It is a medication to maintain your health in a state you want it to be in. Much cheaper than preg to insure.

Like MDMA? I’d like to be euphoric all the time.....

imho birth control is the single greatest contributor towards equality for women in the 20th century. Its a game changer...
-
...when it comes down to it, the overwhelming majority of adult women want to be able to have. Like, they really, really want to...
-
...when alternatives are (1) abstinence or (2) having a baby every couple of years, why would we expect women to thrive in the workplace?
-
...birth control changes so much - its important for women, for men, for the health and welfare of -both- in the modern world.
