I wonder about the psychology of people who are angrily resistant to the idea that we have made any progress in human wellbeing & rights.

I'm not sure that's good psychology. I think seeing how far we've come already can be very inspirational.

Whereas 'Everything was terrible & it still is no matter what we do' is more likely to inspire people to give up & stop trying.

It sounds very protestant to me in it's outlook of life, but lacks the ideas behind it to actually fix things (fix yourself first etc)
