I wouldn't. But, let's be clear. My objection to hitting/spanking is mainly based on the *severity* of what violence is. Toys a small issue.
I quoted it. And I hear it a lot in this debate. I may agree with other arguments but not that one. No right to punish or control.

There are good arguments for not smacking children but 'because adults have the right not to be hit' isn't one for reasons I've given.

You seem to make it here. They shld have the same rights as adults re hitting. As tho justification is 'cos adults do'https://twitter.com/ToddDoug/status/925179298272632832 …

I do make it there, which is different than your paraphrase, and my entire point. People don't say 1) Kids must have the same

legal protections as adults in all cases.' They say 2) 'kids deserve the same protection as adults when it comes to violence.'

I know they're talking about hitting. I said it there, look.https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/925159053256482817 …

*I* am saying that argument doesn't work because it doesn't stand up if applied to anything else. That's not the justification.
-
It doesn't need to stand up when applied to everything else. It's a response to people who *defend* the striking of children
-
It does if you make 'coz you wouldn't do it to adults' the justification for not smacking children rather than that smacking itself is wrong
