My father was a statistician - a rather famous one actually - so I realise I'm kinda biased... But yes, that is a very good reason to learn

Oh, OK. I own "A Field Guide to Lies and Statistics" by the same author. The Huff book is a classic. Also, all of Edward Tufte's work.

Should be taught in school tbh, statistical literacy is a basic critical thinking tool.

It Always bothered me how most students in the social sciences try to avoid it and barely pass 'because they don't like maths'.

That's not a valid excuse, this is one of your basic skill. Carpenters know how to calculate an angle even if they abhor geometry.
