Some ppl argue that if you believe an ideology to be factually & ethically wrong, it's virtuous to not subscribe to it & leave it alone.

-
But if you disbelieve in & are critical of any ideology at all - religious, political, philosophical - you are not being consistent here.

You just have a different priority. And that's fine. We all pick our battles. I don't spend enough time on environmental issues.

That's not so surprising given that "ideology" is a vague concept that can be selectively applied, including applying it to everything.
-
It's not surprising at all. But looseness of the term isn;t the reason for ppl being inconsistent on whether we shld criticise things. .
-
So now you've further abstracted from "ideologies" to "things". Of course ppl disagree about the ethics of criticizing different things.
-
Sets of ideas then. Systems of thought. And they should. My criticism is not of this. It's not admitting that's what they;re doing.
-
It's when they say 'Just don't ascribe to X belief system if you don't believe /like it!' but then criticise Y coz they don't believe/like
-
People will tell me I should just not be religious if I think it ethically/factually wrong as though this is the virtuous thing to do. 1/2
-
But then they'll criticise feminism/capitalism/liberalism/humanism etc rather than just not ascribing to them. 2/2
-
Probably because they see that it has an effect on their life. They can't ignore it. And they feel more independent from religion.
