Dogpiles are horrible. I have been mob attacked on Twitter but it's always been so unreasonable & silly, it had no power to be hurtful.https://twitter.com/shutter_j/status/923938040325664773 …

People who think those being dogpiled on Twitter can "Just mute or block people" have clearly never been mob attacked on Twitter. Thread:

I *personally* find being told I'm fat, ugly, evil & should kill myself is easily brushed off coz there's no real content to it. No sting.

But I know other people have felt overwhelmed and really distraught by the sheer malevolence of it. It is very ugly.

What is most upsetting of all tho, I think, is having your words/deeds harshly misconstrued & being painted as an object of righteous hate.

When ppl say 'fat' 'ugly' 'slut' 'cunt' etc, it's only themselves they discredit. Smearing the reputation of a sincere person much worse.

The one time I got really upset was when I phrased a tweet badly so it cld be misread as disgustingly racist rather than condemning racism.

And obviously some people decided to read it that way despite everything else I've ever said on the subject ever. That was really upsetting.

Obv, genuine ppl accepted when I explained how it should be read but others insisted I'd meant opposite despite evidence of my views.

It was horrible even tho it was only about 30 people and stopped after a day. Must be horrible for ppl who get mobs of hundreds for days
