I agree that the New Atheists are/were liberal in the old sense. Believed in the Enlightenment, scientific revolution & progress. As do I.

But I don't think they generally buy into the idea that Christianity was morally &factually reformed by the changes wrought by Protestantism

Yes. But is she typical of New Atheist values generally? I think New Atheists tend to regard differences between Cath & Prot as superficial.

Sure, but I think some truth to the claim New Atheists have naive view of history which goes - Catholicism -> Reformation -> Enlightenment.

I mean, I roughly have the kind of naive view that the author is criticising. I want to interpret history as progress to the modern age.
