But can science work if it can never claim anything to be (provisionally) true? If it doesn't aim for objective truth?

Sure, you just have to state under what assumptions your truth holds. Same as in logic.

I mean, usually scientific studies are pretty good at stating what they did and what the result was.

If it doesn't have one, there will be an implicit one (or multiple). It's one of the many ways in which math is simpler than social science.
