Class is another thing that seems to differ across the Atlantic but I'm not sure. In the US, 'upper class' means the most rich & successful?
Right. Very much based on income which goes with the anti-aristocracy, self-made, American dream ethos.

Whereas here, class tends to be detected from accent and attitude. Mostly accent. I'd be instantly detectable as middle middle class.
